The 2016 Master of the Ocean will hit Cabarete, in the Dominic Republic, between February 23rd-28th.

The only water sports competition featuring surfing, windsurfing, kiteboarding and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) returns for its 14th edition. The event, which evolved from “Ironman of Watersports” to “Master of the Ocean” was founded by Marcus Bohm in 2013.

It features 12 teams of four athletes. Each rider competes in a discipline, and the top 15 competitors move to a final stage, where they’ll battle for the Master of the Ocean title.

The Dominican Republic offers waves with no wind in the morning for surfers and SUP enthusiasts, and consistent incoming trade winds from noon onwards, the perfect conditions for windsurfers and kitesurfers.

The Caribbean nation aims to become the ultimate water sports destination for adventure and sports travelers, surpassing Hawaii and Costa Rica. Cabarete is a bohemian town that has been attracting extreme board sports fans all year-round.

“We have been honored with the presence of many outstanding athletes and teams from places as Germany, Italy, Scandinavia, Hawaii, USA, Israel, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Barbados, Brazil, and Canada, and we hope to keep adding many more to the list,” noted Marcus Bohm.

The 2016 Master of the Ocean expects to feature the 2015 champion Zane Schweitzer, Samuel Perez-Hultz, Fiona Wylde, Luciano Gonzalez, Michael Gebhardt, and Brian Talma, among many other international riders.
